Urban One Houston Celebrates Women’s History Month

This annual celebration highlights the contributions of women in history and contemporary society.
Urban One Houston welcomes the opportunity to highlight outstanding women from the past, present and those that are on the road to be outstanding in the future.
The #MeToo Movement has inspired women from all nationalities and backgrounds to come to the front.
This is a Celebration of Women, from a local and national levels, that have made
great strides in the community with their outreach, poetry, motivational speaking and politics.

Pamela B. McKay
Vice President and General Manager
Radio One – Houston

Pam McKay is the Vice President and General Manager of Radio One Houston. She oversees all operations for the local properties that include:
• KMJQ/Majic 102.1
• KBXX/97.9 The Box
• KROI/92.1 Radio Now

Pam began her radio career in Houston in March of 1991 at KPRC-AM Talk Radio as an account executive. Because of her great talent, success came quickly. Pam was promoted to National Sales Manager of KPRC-AM and then accepted the position of General Sales Manager of KHMX-FM. While in Houston, Pam served as a board member of the local American Women in Radio and Television chapter. In June of 2006, she was promoted to Vice President/Market Manager of then Clear Channel Media + Entertainment Austin. In 2009 she was elevated to President and managed both the Austin and San Antonio markets.

While in Austin, Pam served on many community boards such as March of Dimes and Susan G. Komen for the Cure and founded the iHeartMEDIA Community Advisory Board with leaders from various sectors of the city. The iHeartMEDIA Community Advisory Board launched a citywide campaign called “The Class of Texas” which supported a mentorship program within the Central Texas School Districts. Pam was an active member of the Alliance for Women in Media and mentored many women in AWM, providing funding, coaching and leadership with the Austin AWM chapter.

As an award winning media professional Pam has received the following awards: Selected by AWRT “Making Waves” as one of the Top 25 Women Who Rule in Sales & Marketing in 2008, recipient of the Alliance for Women in Media Trailblazer Award in 2011, Country Radio Large Market Manager of the Year in 2012, 2014 and 2016, Entrepreneur of the Year by the Austin African American Chamber of Commerce in 2011, and one of the Top 50 Managers in Radio in 2014.

Pam has been married for 25 years to her husband Bob and has four children: Kellyn, her 23 year old daughter and 16 year old triplets Kharson, Kendall and Kamille. Pam attended Texas Southern University to study Business Administration and Management where she was a member of the Lady Tigers Women’s Basketball Team and a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
