On Monday, we learned that Bill O’Brien hired former NFL wide receiver Wes Welker as an offensive/special teams assistant coach.
Before this past season, Welker had been a guest coach for both the Baltimore Ravens and the Miami Dolphins to help with the organization of their team activities.

While live on NFL Total Access last night, the Houston Texans linebacker Whitney Mercilus was asked if he had heard the news regarding Welker.
Mercilus told them he had seen the breaking news while in their “green room” and then spoke on the matter.
Mercilus started by saying, “That’s a huge pickup, I think, honestly. Just have to his knowledge on the team, just to have somebody who played the game for so long, just to be able to teach the guys exactly what he saw out there so that they pretty much mimic exactly their skill set as they play out on the field.”
Wes Welker was played on the New England Patriots from 2007-2012 and during his time there, he was coached Bill O’Brien in 2008 when O’Brien was the teams Wide receivers coach.
