If the presidential candidates want to reach young voters, they should offer solid education plans, Education Week reports.

Education is the most important issue for young adults, ages 18 to 30, according to the “GenForward” survey, conducted by the Black Youth Project at the University of Chicago and the Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research.

The survey asked nearly 2,000 individuals to choose the three most important issues when sizing up a presidential candidate. Education was on the list of 31 percent of those who took the survey.

At 35 percent, African-Americans led the way in placing education as one of their top three issues. But 15 percent of the Asians who took the survey said that education is their number-one concern.

The groups went in other directions in selecting their second most important issue. Number two on the list for African-Americans is racism. For Hispanics, immigration is second to education. Meanwhile, for Whites and Asians, a solid economic growth strategy came in second behind education policy.

The Associated Press said the survey sample was designed to reflect the millennial population and to underscore how race impacts their views.
