Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

Source: Warner Bros. / Warner Bros.

Out this week – the BLUE RAY -DVD of Batman Vs. Superman: Dawn Of Justice…many of you have seen the theatrical version – so here are my thoughts on the new “Ultimate Edition” included with the film.  Ok – let me let you know upfront – I never saw the theatrical version of “Batman Vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice” when it was released this spring.  I know a lot of critics and fan hated it – that’s why I stayed away. Well, being a Batman fan since birth, I thought I would check it out when it was released digitally and this weekend, VUDU, a digital movie download site, made the available with a directors cut a.k.a an “Ultimate Edition.”  After doing some research, I found out a lot of folks like the cut with over 30 minutes of footage (clocking in at just over 3 hours) a lot better.  The main reason was the extra scenes made the story was less confusing. After reading what was added, I wonder why it was cut out in the first place.  The “Ultimate Edition” is not perfect, but it is entertaining.  And, side note, I didn’t know the cut was rated R –  but after an F word, extreme violence and shot of Batman’s butt I figured it out.  What was added to those who saw the original theatrical edit? Well, besides naked Batman, (spoilers ahead) Lois discovers secrets about  the pawn in Lex Luthor’s bomb plot,  more scenes to explain the “Africa” subplot, an extra origin scene and more. I won’t spoil it all.  I did really like Gail Godot and her portrayal of Wonder Woman – and look forward to her film.  All in all, it’s a Saturday or Sunday afternoon watch – (**1/2 stars out of four)
