The world’s oldest person, Susannah Mushatt Jones, had died, MSN reports.

Born in 1899, Susannah was 116 years and 311 days old.

Robert Young, a senior consultant for the Gerentology Research Group, told CBS News that she died Thursday night in her sleep in a chair at her senior home in Brooklyn.

She was the last living American born in the 1800s. And she witnessed the first Black president. Incredible.

Susannah was born in Montgomery, Alabama in a farm town. She was one of 11 kids. Family members credit her longevity to her love of family and her generosity.

A life well lived.
