There’s always a moment when every stereotype or statistic is completely contradicted, and for the Myles family, they are a living-breathing example.

Shenitria “Nitra” Myles shared on a Facebook a family photo of herself, husband Mario, and their 5-year-old MJ posing in caps and gowns. She captioned the photo with, “Mario: Masters of Special Education (May 7) Nitra: Juris Doctor (May 21) MJ: Kindergarten (May 23) #‎MayGrads‬ ‪#‎AFamilyThatStudiesTogether‬”.

And over 27,000 likes later, they’re still being praised.

Talking to The YBF from their home in New Orleans, Nitra painted a clear picture of the obstacles they overcame to earn their degrees. “I became pregnant with our son my sophomore year in college,” she said. “It was a trying time because we attended Xavier in New Orleans and had no family within the area, the closest was 7 hours away.”

Adding, “This year we will both be graduating from graduate school and our son will be graduating from kindergarten with honors. God is so good.”

In addition to graduating from law school, Myles also plans to release a book about their journey called “Balancing Adversity”.

“My husband and I began to depend on one another for daily aspects in life as we both finished undergrad,” Myles said. “Every day was a new learning experience and everyday we pushed one another so that we could still achieve the goals we had set.”

Hand claps all around for this family of scholars. We never can get enough of seeing hard work in action.
