On August 10, 2015, WWE joined a global auction that would provide fans to bid on Hollywood celebs, professional athletes and your favorite WWE star for a meeting and greet and maybe more.
The auction is considered a “once-in-a-lifetime” event because you’re able to bid on a chance to have a meet and greet with celebs and athletes, but it’s all for a good cause.
It’s for an opportunity to support the families of the New York City Police Officers Firefighters, Port Authority Police, and EMS Personnel who have been killed in the line of duty. The is called the “Answer The Call,” a mission the New York Police and Fire Widows’ and Children’s Benefit Fund is.
According to their website, the “‘Answer the Call’ was founded in 1985 by professional baseball player Daniel J. “Rusty” Staub. Rusty is a former Houston Astros, Montreal Expos, New York Mets, Detroit Tigers and Texans Rangers player and in 1986, he was inducted into the New York Mets Hall of Fame.
He’s also a member of the Astros, Rangers, Expos and Canadian Baseball Halls of Fame and was the first player from the Expos to have their number retired too.
Rusty started this organization after he heard a story of an NYP who was killed in the line of duty and he had left behind a wife and three kids.”
“We are thrilled to have WWE’s support as the ‘Answer the Call’ for the families of New York City’s fallen first responders,” said Mark Messier, VP of Community Affairs of NY Police and Fire Widows’ and Children’s Benefit Fund. “Our partnership will ensure that we continue to provide a network of support and financial assistance for those who have lost a loved one int he line of duty.”
