NFL’s Defensive Tackle, Amobie Okoye was originally drafted by the Houston Texans in the tenth overall draft in 2007, at the young age of 19 years old.
After his fourth season with the Texans, Okoye was released in 2011 and was than picked up by the Chicago Bears. That stint was short lived because he was than signed with Tampa Bay Buccaneers on April 2012. Okoye would later be signed back on with the Bears in August 2012. He was later waved in November 27th and brought back again on December 12th.

Unfortunately that isn’t what changed his life… Okoye was diagnosed with a one-in-a-million rare disease called autoimmune syndrome that causes the brain to be inflamed. His antibodies interfered with the cell communication which caused damage to the neurons. This caused Okoye to mis the entire 2013 season.
Okoye was put into a medical induced coma for 145-days…. Okoye couldn’t tell you anything that happened from March 15, 2013 to August 7, 2013.
Okoye was awaken in July and he had lost an obvious 78 pounds and he did wake up fully recovered either. He spoke gibberish and had random laughter outburst for no apparent reasons.
Luckily, Okoye started feeling like himself around October 2013 and by December he had Football on the brain, he’s even considers himself a “Walking Miracle!”
At first, the Cowboys’ trainer, Jim Maurer said, “He’s not ready to get in the game yet, but he’s taking these baby steps to come back.
Luck or a blessing, but on May 16, 2014, Okoye signed with the Dallas Cowboys and was ready to play again.
On April 8, 2015, Okoye was released by the Dallas Cowboys.
Let’s see what the Okoye’s NFL future holds.
