(Vatican City) — Pope Francis is at the center of a firestorm after saying it’s okay to spank children as long as it’s done with dignity. The Pope made the comment during a general audience in St. Peter’s Square on Wednesday. The remarks sparked a flood of both criticism and support on social media this week. A Vatican spokesman cautioned against reading too much into the Pope’s words, calling him both a pastor and a loving father figure.
