Another major move that went UN-publicized was a phone call placed to HOT 107.5/WGPR’s Program Director Jay Hicks from L.A. Reid, Chairman/CEO Epic Records, late Monday night. It is routine for a label to call program directors and taste makers in an artist’s home town to confirm the buzz. Being that Dej Loaf’s “Try Me” has steady spins on a variety of mix shows on Detroit radio including HOT 107.5 as well as Shade45, it’s safe to say Jay Hicks put in a good word.
