(PEARLAND, TX) — Thanks to a clerical error, a Friendswood police officer who was allegedly riding a motorcycle while drunk is getting off with a relative slap on the wrist.

Off-duty Officer Fred Cramer was confronted by police in Pearland last October after they found his motorcycle lying on the ground.

Officers got a warrant to draw blood after Cramer refused a field sobriety test. That blood test showed a blood-alcohol level of 0.264 — three times the legal limit.

One small problem: The warrant did not officially authorize taking Cramer’s blood.

It turned out that the arresting officer inadvertently put down his own name on the warrant instead of Cramer’s.

Brazoria County District Attorney Jeri Yenne tells our news partner, KHOU 11, that it was an honest mistake.

Still, because of the “oops,” Yenne had to bypass driving while intoxicated charges and instead charge Cramer with public intoxication, to which he pleaded guilty earlier this month.

The Friendswood Police Department gave Cramer a letter of reprimand, referred him to substance abuse counseling and put him back on the streets.
