Hey guys @jjonthemic here! Ask me what I did this weekend and I will tell you I had extra hot, steamy fun. Literally!

I tried hot yoga and/or Bikram yoga for the first time ever! Hot yoga is really hot, literally its exactly what it says it is. The issue for me actually wasn’t so much the heat but the smell. Picture a room full of hot, sweating grown ups in close proximity… Eeek!

But no, it definitely works your muscles and helps you to be flexible. Who wouldn’t love to be flexible? Plus, I drank like 5 gallons of water afterwards, *insert desperate gulps*!

Pretty interesting experience that was and  I would absolutely go back! My personal tip to anyone who wants to try it, the less you wear the better!

I did a little research to find out the benefits or hot aka Bikram yoga and safety measures you should take if you’re going to try it:

via www.lululemon.com:

Benefits:

  • enhanced flexibility
  • successful recovery from injury (due to deep stretching)
  • endless flushing of toxins due to increased perspiration

Forewarning:

  • Bikram is a great place for beginners to push themselves – just remember to stay hydrated before and during class.

Attire and needed accessories:

  • Next to nothing…or anything that feels like nothing, that is. Clothing that breathes and is moisture wicking is ideal, and anything with mesh and extra venting will also be your best friend in the heat. Do yourself a favour and steer clear of cotton and other fabrics that will hold sweat and weigh you down; there is no reason to create more heat for yourself. Form-fitting clothing will help avoid restriction in postures and keep you from feeling sticky.
  • Water! Drink plenty of water before practice, during practice, and yup, you guessed it: tons of water after practice. Hydration is very important in Bikram yoga to avoid dizziness and to give you a break from the heat. Most studios will provide a mat and a towel (usually for a small cost) but you can also bring your own.
