(HOUSTON) — A Houston police officer is lucky to have escaped serious injury after a high speed crash on the city’s north side.

At about 10:30 p.m. Thursday, that officer’s car was hit by one of two pickup trucks racing on Irvington, near Tidwell and the Hardy Toll Road.

The driver that hit him was taken into custody.  The other truck driver took off.

This witness says racing on Irvington is a daily threat, and there’s even organized activity.

He says it’s obvious the participants have no regard for safety, life or anyone else.
