The school district suspended the 15-year-old for two days and will continue to punish him if he doesn’t participate in the Pledge of Allegiance.

Michalec said he’d been standing up for the Pledge since kindergarten and has love for his country, just not the U.S. government.

Needville High School’s stance on the issue is pretty clear. Here is page straight out their student handbook.

Most states, including Texas, require that kids say the Pledge. The five states that don’t require kids say the Pledge are Vermont, Oklahoma, Hawaii, Iowa and Wyoming.
