9-year-old Grayson Bruce an elementary school student in Buncombe County, N.C., has been banned from carrying his My Little Pony backpack because school officials say it triggers bullying.

Grayson had been carrying the fuzzy, blue bag with cartoon pony Rainbow Dash’s face on it even though kids in the school picked on him.

WLOS ABC 13 reports

“They’re taking it a little too far, with punching me, pushing me down, calling me horrible names, stuff that really shouldn’t happen.” One student even told the 9-year-old to go kill himself.

The school has not commented directly on the situation, but Jason Rhodes, the communications director for Buncombe County Schools, said this in a statement:

“First and foremost our schools take any allegations of bullying seriously and work diligently in all cases to resolve the issues in the best interest of students. We have programs in place to prevent, report and intervene to keep our students safe and protected.”

Grayson is now being homeschooled by his mom Noreen Bruce. She has started a “Support For Grayson” Facebook page which has almost 46,000 likes.
