Pope Francis accidentally let one slip – a swear, that is. In front of a crowd gathered at the Vatican for his weekly blessing, the pope used the word ”cazzo”, or the Italian-language equivalent of a good ole’ fashioned F bomb.

Before you start waving your crucifixes around overhead thinking the pope is just the coolest (which, let’s face it, he is), let it be known that he mistakenly used the word. He meant to say “caso”, meaning “case”.

Since the pope’s native language is Spanish, it’s actually not that surprising that he would get his words mixed up. According to NPR, this is a common mistake for most non-native Italian speakers.

We think Pope Francis will get free pass on this one. (If not, there’s always confession.)
