The bodies of a father and son who went missing during a swim in the San Luis Pass washed ashore this morning. The bodies were discovered on the Galveston County side of the waterway around 7 a.m.

The U.S. Coast Guard suspended its search Monday night for 48-year-old Raul Stothart and his 10-year-old son, Chandler.  The two were swept away Sunday morning after Chandler and another child stepped off the sand bar and into the water.  The first child’s father helped his son back to the sandbar.  Stothart and his son were both taken under by the current.

The Coast Guard says at least six drownings were reported this holiday weekend.

A red-flag warning went up for Galveston as conditions along the coast progressively became more dangerous.
