It seems Justin Bieber is trumping the “USA” at one New York elementary school. The “New York Post” reports Principal Greta Hawkins of Brooklyn’s PS 90 recently banned Lee Greenwood’s hit “God Bless the USA” from being performed by kindergarten students at their upcoming moving-up ceremony. Hawkins did, however, keep Bieber’s song “Baby” in the set list. A spokesperson from the Department of Education said Hawkins made her decision after lyrics in Greenwood’s patriotic anthem about the end of life as we know it were deemed inappropriate for five-year-olds.
But many parents and teachers don’t agree with the cut, and have already started a Facebook page demanding Hawkins be removed from the school. So far, the principal has not commented on her controversial musical selection. The ceremony is scheduled to take place June 20th.
