Houston Police Department officers shot a suspect robbing an adult video store off the Gulf Freeway in Houston that sits near the Edgebrook exit. Two Crime Reduction Units with HPD were on routine patrol when just after 2:00 A.M. Wednesday morning, one notices something suspicious. Through the glass storefront, someone was moving around in a crouching position. The lead patrol car pulls in and as Officers M.A. Delacerda and D. A. Morelli walked into the doorway, they spotted a suspect armed with a shotgun at the counter. The suspect turned towards the officers with the shotgun and the officers fired their weapons then immediately retreated outside behind their patrol car.

The suspect was ordered to come out which he did. He had been shot and was rushed to Ben Taub Hospital where he is in critical condition but expected to survive. It does not appear the suspect fired his shotgun.

Officers were able to recover an undisclosed amount of cash. It appears one store employee may have been pistol whipped; she is being checked out my medical officials.

The Crime Reduction Units are assigned to hot spots around Houston. As standard procedure, the two officers will be assigned desk duty while the investigation continues.
