A woman died of gunshot wounds in northeast Houston Monday morning after running to a neighbor’s house for help.

The victim was shot inside a home in the 4000 block of Liberty near Russell.

According to reports, the woman was bleeding when she ran next door and banged on the door to plead for help.

The neighbor tried to help, but the armed suspect had followed the victim. The suspect allegedly dragged the woman back into his house where he shot her again. Police say the couple lived together.

Neighbors flagged down police who were nearby at another scene, but the suspect refused to come out of house. After a brief standoff with HPD’s SWAT team, he finally surrendered. The woman’s body was found inside. Police say the suspect told them he shot her because “she made him mad.’

The victim, 31, leaves behind three children.
