Police and Crime Stoppers seek the public’s help locating a man whose DNA was linked to a 2009 sexual assault.

According to investigators, James West Jorden raped a 45-year-old woman in a vacant apartment in the 6900 block of South Loop East the morning of July 9, 2009.

Investigators said the woman was walking along the street around 9 a.m. that day when Jorden approached her from behind, grabbed her by the throat and began to choke her.Jorden overpowered the woman and forced her into a nearby vacant apartment and violently sexually assaulted her, according to investigators. Reports say he then he robbed her and then fled the scene.

In January 2012, investigators were able to match the DNA recovered as evidence in the assault to Jorden. He was charged with aggravated sexual assault on March 14, 2012 and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
