(Burlington, VT)  —  Serious accusations are being filed over maple syrup.  Bernard Coleman of Rhode Island is accused of claiming the syrup he was selling over the Internet was Vermont maple syrup.  Federal officials investigated the case and say it wasn’t Vermont maple syrup at all but simply pure cane sugar.  It could have bitter consequences for Coleman as he is charged with adulteration, or misbranding of a food.  He could be fined ten-thousand-dollars and spend a year behind bars.
