Inspired by the jewels in his wife’s teeth, an optometrist at India’s Shekhar Eye Research Center has developed diamond encrusted, gold plated contact lenses to bring a certain twinkle to your eye.

The exotic eyewear costs $15,000 a pair, and even though some critics find the lenses a bit excessive, the profits will go toward treating patients suffering from Stevens Johnson Syndrome, a skin disease that can lead to vision loss.

Will this unconventional jewelry catch on? Chawan expects the lenses to be the next big Bollywood fashion trend.
