Playwright, Eric Simonson tackled the task of bringing pro football to Broadway with Lombardi, the play surrounding the life of coaching icon, Vince Lombardi.
This time the producers of the hit show are teaming up with the NBA to bring the lives of basketball legends, Magic Johnson and Larry Bird to the stage in the theatrical work entitled, Magic/Bird.
The two Dream Team players have had their names mentioned simultaneously since they were both high school athletic All-Americans. Their rivalry continued during their collegiate battles and lasted throughout their professional careers as both of them became champions.
Bird and Johnson not only symbolized the racial separation in sports at the time of their rise, but they also made pro basketball a marketing haven sparking individuality in a team competition.
There’s been no casting or theater set for the play that will be produced by Lombardi‘s Tony Ponturo and Fran Kirmser.
The Hall of Famers will be a part of the creative process as Magic stated, “I have great love and respect for Larry Bird, and am elated that our personal and professional relationship will now be exposed to an even larger audience through this dramatic production.”
Bird commented on how excited he is to work with the team behind the production to document such an important time in his life.
