(Chicago, IL)  —  The latest trend in movie and television viewing might end up being a boon for eye doctors.  Some leading eye experts say the growing popularity of three-dimensional movies such as James Cameron’s “Avatar” are leaving some people with eye problems and headaches.  Dr. Michael Rosenberg, an ophthalmology professor at Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago, says a lot of people with minor eye problems will have those problems magnified by watching movies, sports or other programs in 3D.

The success of  “Avatar” has inspired a crop of 3D TV sets, which were unveiled this week at the International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.  Experts say there are no studies tracking how common it is to get a headache after watching a 3D movie.  Rosenberg says people may quickly tire of the novelty and find viewing 3D programs is, quote, “not really comfortable.”
