I have been playing Fantasy Football for 4 years. As a matter of fact I’m in three different leagues and I was fortunate enough to make the championship in my newest one. (I’ll let you know if I won Monday). But I had no idea how much money employers lose if you take just 10 minutes a day to set your roster or make waiver wire acquisitions.

According to Challenger, Gray & Christmas Inc., a Chicago-based employment research firm that tracks corporate office trends, a fast-growing 36.8 million people who participate in Fantasy Football are costing employers as much as $1.1 billion weekly in lost productivity during the National Football League season.

Did you read that $1.1 billion?!?!? So you would think that employers would crack down on those causing all of this lost productivity. Nope. Many bosses feel that fantasy sports participation was a positive influence in the workplace. Another 40 percent said it boosted camaraderie among employees, and 20 percent said it enabled them to make a valuable business contact.

“Employers should avoid squashing employees’ brief participation in fantasy football during work hours,” Challenger said. “The potential damage to morale and loyalty resulting from a … ban could be far worse than the loss of productivity caused by 10 minutes of online team management. Companies that not only allow workers to indulge in fantasy football but actually encourage it by organizing a company league are likely to see significant benefits.”

Did you read that boss lady? Me deciding to start Drew Brees or Tony Romo actually makes me a better mixer because now I’m happier in the work place. …….do you think she bought it?
