“It’s not fair! How are you going to put (insert artist) vs. (insert artist).” I hear it all the time when we do a Star Wars mix. Well what could be more fair than pitting Michael Jackson against…….Michael Jackson. Friday (9/4) at 9am I’ll be doing a Off The Wall (1979) vs. Thriller (1982) mix. How can you complain about that?
With Off the Wall, Jackson became the first solo artist to have four singles from the same album peak inside the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100. The album was a commercial success, to date it is certified for 8× Multi-Platinum in the US and has sold more than 20 million copies worldwide.
Thriller became—and currently remains—the best-selling album of all time, with sales estimated by various sources as somewhere between 65 and 110 million copies worldwide. Seven of the album’s nine songs were released as singles, and all reached the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100. The album won a record-breaking eight Grammy Awards at the 1984 Grammys.
