Congrats to the Rockets for their big win over the Clippers last night & here’s the latest gossip courtesy of Chron.com:
The home locker room at the Toyota Center was buzzing with the news of former guard Von Wafer’s intention to return to the Rockets.
Wafer, 24, has reportedly bought out his contract with a Greek team, Olympiacos, for $1.2 million, and is en route to Houston. But before he can become a Rocket, he must pass a physical.
“We’ll wait and see,” Rockets coach Rick Adelman said. “He proved last year he could play for us. We’ll just have to see how the whole thing works out. We know him, we know what he can do off the bench and we’ll see how it plays out.”
In 63 games last season, including 11 starts, Wafer averaged 9.7 points and made 39 percent of his 3-point attempts.
If everything goes well with the physical, Adelman said he anticipated Wafer being available after Christmas, which isn’t a moment too soon with an ankle injury sidelining rookie Chase Budinger two to three weeks.
“You know what he did for us last year,” Adelman said of Wafe. “And with how we’re trying to play, he fits in extremely well. He gives us a little bit more depth.”
