Rain-soaked, sticky grain has clogged traffic for hours on Interstate 10 east of downtown after an 18-wheeler broke in half and lost its load early this morning.

Officials are uncertain when the mess will be cleared.

The incident occurred about 5:20 a.m. on the eastbound East Freeway near Federal, officials said.

No injuries were reported.

The truck somehow broke apart and spilled its cargo onto at least two lanes of traffic. The downpours in the area have made cleanup difficult because the soggy grain is very sticky.

Traffic has been backed up in the area for hours as workers clear the site, and it is unknown when the spill will be completely cleaned up.
