CLOSE

With the fireworks in sight, it’s time to pick out an outfit that’s comfortable, light, and full of spirit.  But just how much spirit is too much spirit? Of course, it’s fun to do the stars, stripes, and overwhelming shades of red, white, and blue when you are young.  But it’s time to kick it up a notch and add some class to your July 4th outfit while still representing the land of the free and the home of the brave!

When I was younger I remember my goal was to wear every possible red, white, or blue article of clothing that I owned.  Nowadays, I’ve started to focus more on the look rather than the colors.

To me, the shoes are the biggest part of your outfit.  Your best bet is to make your shoes pop. If you’re doing red or white in your outfit, throw on some royal blue pumps.  White stilettos are always very summery.  Put on a pair of dazzling white shoes to add some flare to your colored dress.

I’ve been noticing lots of girls wearing striped dresses this summer.  Although these can get overwhelming, two toned stripes can definitely be cute.  If you want to go with all 3 colors, wear two of the colors in your outfit then throw the third color into your shoes!

Accessories are the key.  They add color but they are not too crazy.  If you find yourself with a cute outfit that only shows two colors of the spirit, then throw on a bracelet or earrings that are the third color! There’s always the other option of displaying the color in your makeup.  This is risky- make sure you’re careful!

Something I see a lot nowadays is girls somehow managing to turn an American flag into a strapless dress.  This could be cute… but keep it classy.  It’s really easy to look like you did just that: wrapped a flag around yourself and called it getting ready.
