Authorities are searching for a man suspected in a fatal shooting during a carjacking this morning in north Harris County that was apparently sparked by chrome rims on the victim’s car.

The shooting occurred in the parking lot of an apartment complex in the 22900 block of Imperial Valley about 8 a.m., according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies said the victim, a Hispanic man whose name has not been released, was shot twice. He was rushed to Ben Taub General Hospital, where he later died.

Deputies are searching for a man who allegedly shot him and then sped away in the victim’s lime-green Ford Taurus which has chrome spoke wheels. The car has Texas license plate JZR 258.

The motive for the shooting may have been the car’s rims, deputies said.

The man is described only as black and 5 feet 10 inches tall. He is bald and was dressed in dark-colored clothing.

Anyone with information about the case is urged to contact the Sheriff’s Homicide Division at 713 967-5810.
