Winning big were Viola Davis, Daniel Kaluuya, and the late Chadwick Boseman among many this past Sunday (April 4).

The late actor won a posthumous Golden Globe Award for his role in director George C. Wolfe's Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom. His wife, Taylor Simone Ledward, tearfully accepted the award on his behalf.

Black History Month is off to a great start. Several award nominations were announced for 2021, and Chadwick Boseman made history. He is the first actor to be nominated for four film nominations for the SAG Awards in one year.

Set in 1927 Chicago, Ma Rainey's Black Bottom is centered on the incredible story of one of America's first Black professional Blues singer, Ma Rainey, and the tension and conflict between her and the white ownership of the clubs where she performed. Although Boseman’s character, Levee, is fictitious, the film shows how the actual creation of her hit song, "Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom” came to fruiting and also revealing that the song was written for a dance by the same name.
