In regards to same sex partner benefits, you should be able to cover anyone you can afford the premium for.

“Now, that she is there, I have someone we know will listen to our issues and complaints,” someone state in the article. It is unfair to assume former Mayor Bill White didn’t listen. It was his place to champion gay causes or issues. Nor, anyone before or after him.

The article states “Parker’s victory was due, in large part, to the local perception that she was not “the gay candidate.” This is not true. Please search the Houston Chronicle archives. Almost every article written about mentioned that she was openly lesbian.

The article states “…neither did she make it the key “data point” of her public identity” in her previous bids for public office. She did mention it in her mayoral acceptance speech. Approving gay marriage and/or same sex benefits can’t be a mark of success during her tenure. Not when unemployment is at an all time high since the great depression and the budget is out of whack.

I will evaluate her tenure based on her performance. Whether she admits it or not, she will appreciate that in the end. I don’t want her to be the best gay mayor. I just want her to be the best mayor.

I feel that same about her being gay as I do about Obama being black. I don’t care. I want the most qualified political officials that will solve real issues in the city and country. Any politician that wants a vote based on sexual preference or race is clueless. Those who casted votes based on either are fools.

Hurry and finish celebrating her “gayness.” Cause she has a city to run. The city of Houston won’t tolerate that as an excuse if she fails to reign in our budget deficit which is in the 100s of millions.
