Poland’s Olympic discus player put his Silver Medal up for auction in order to help a 3-year cancer patient that is in need of surgery.
Olympian Piotr Malachowski set off to help the 3-year old, Olek Szymanski who is suffering from a rare form of eye cancer called retinoblastoma in New York City.

The boy needs surgery that could be a life saver, but it cost $126,000, but $84,000 one-third had already been raised by the Polish Foundation Siepomaga and the remainder of the money that Piotr was trying to raise in an online auction was to help the family out.
According to ESPN, the olympian had reached $19,000 in his online auction, but he closed it down days early after he announced that Polish billionaires Dominika and Sebastian Kulczyk had purchased the medal for the amount that was needed for the surgery.
The brother and sister inherited their billions from their father who passed away in July 2015. According to Forbes Magazine, the two are worth $3.4 billions combined.
Piotr earned a silver in the 2008 Beijing Games as well, but so far the silver medal that was earned during the recent 2016 Rio Games is worth more…  “We were able to show that together we can do wonders, ” Piotr wrote. “My silver medal today is worth a lot more than a week ago. It is worth the life and health of a small Olek. It is our great shared success.”
