In New York City, their mayor Bill de Blasio brought free kiosks to Time Square that came with free wi-fi in order to offer free high-speed internet. The kiosks were developed in old, unused telephone booths that are still on the streets.
The city’s purpose for developing these communal tablets kiosks that included wi-fi has obviously “backfired” on them when.
They were shocked when they discovered that homeless men and schoolchildren were spending extended times not only browsing for porn, but watching it too.
One homeless man who calls himself Hakeem, 44, said, “I was watching porn on one of them things on, like, Saturday.
Then on, like, Monday or Tuesday, all of a sudden I couldn’t. Once word got around, it stopped. It sucks, man. It was great.”
Hakeem also made it clear about the school kids part of this story too, he said, “there were kids who were skipping school and just coming over here to watch porn. The cops had to come and break them up.”
And they talked to Joseph, 28, another homeless man who expressed how he felt when he discovered that he had no more free porn time too… “I was kind of pissed.”
The company, LinkNYC had to implement new additional filters in order to put an end to the porn surfing and watching.
