Lakers Lamar Odom is jovial during the shoot around before the start of the game against the Philad

Lamar Odom survived an alleged drug overdose that left him unconscious in a Nevada brothel last month, but according to new reports, his life will “never be the same.”

PEOPLE reveals that Lamar has been showing signs of progression, but will need help “completing everyday tasks for the foreseeable future.” According to an insider who spoke to the site:

“Lamar has made some progress, but his cognitive impairment is making life very challenging,” says an insider, who notes that Odom, 36, is not able to walk by himself and struggles to communicate verbally, issues attributable to oxygen deprivation and the strokes he suffered following his overdose.

“Lamar won’t likely leave the hospital for a long time,” says the source. “And when he does, he will need full time care. He can’t take care of himself.”

The source says that Lam is grateful to have wife Khloe Kardashian in his life as he continues to fight, but insists that the former L.A. Laker has “serious longterm and lasting issues.”

We’ll keep L.O. in our prayers.
