Surprise: You’re spending too much time on your phone.

People have been telling kids this for years and finally there are numbers to prove it. Common Sense Media released a study titled, The Common Sense Census: Media Use, which explains how young Americans interact with media today. According to Forbesthe study says U.S. teens ages 13 to 18 spend nearly 9 hours a day in front of a screen – whether their phone, computer, or television. Perhaps even more frightening is that Tweens between the young ages of 8 and 12 spend six hours a day. With the rapid development of technology – including social media – over the past ten years, kids’ overall media consumption has only gotten worse, especially with 53 percent of tweens having their own tablet.

And because we all love them, here’s an infographic pretty much explaining why today’s generation is screwed.

Though these stats have just solidified what we’ve all known, it’s scary to imagine how many hours adults spend in front of screens everyday thanks to crazy work hours.

But who are we kidding? Nothing’s going to un-glue our fingers from these keyboards.
