A 13-year-old boy named Gregory Slaughter was bit by a shark yesterday morning in Galveston.

The boy and his brother were only in waist deep water when a school of fish swam near them, and so did a shark.

As a big wave approached the boys, he heard his brother scream so he went over and punched the shark in the head.

Gregory was bit on his ankle and both of his hands. He is in stable condition although his mother says he will need surgery.

According to the boys, the shark was about four to five feet long. There have only been 9 shark bites in the last 20 years on Galveston Island.
