During “Empire State of Mind,” New York native, Lil Mama, felt inclined to hit the stage uninvited. Refresh your memory with the video below:

Since then, in a recent interview Lil Mama revealed the backlash behind her actions and mentioned how much it hurt her.

“It took a lot of mental strength, spiritual strength, and physical strength, not to want to hurt others, not to want to hurt myself. A person could be damn near suicidal,” Lil Mama says.

Lil Mama even confessed that she tried to get Beyoncé to go on stage with her. Looking back she said Bey was right and she was tripping.

The whole incident altered Lil Mama’s career and even put her on a sort of blacklist from MTV. She says people in the industry were hesitant to take a chance working with her because they didn’t want to be on bad terms with Jay Z or Alicia Keys.

After all of the public shame, Lil Mama is finally making her way back on the scene with her latest song “Sausage.”
