(Charleston, SC) — The president of the NAACP wants South Carolina lawmakers to take down the Confederate flagflying outside the State Capitol building. On CBS’s “Face the Nation,” Cornell William Brooks said the flag is more recognizable as a symbol of white supremacists than for any historical reasons. The shooter who killed nine people at an historic black church in Charleston had the flag on his car’s license plate, and there are photos of him holding it.
