16 year old teen Kaylan Ward was found dead in New Orleans on Thursday off Interstate I-10. Her mother had a strong message for the teens friends and teens who may be running away from home and being rebellious to their parents.
“Stop sneaking. – Young people don’t want to listen to your parents,” Kenisha Martin-Nelson said. “This is what happens when you don’t listen.”
According to local news reports, Ward was killed while walking or attempting to cross the interstate in the dark. Her body was in the right shoulder emergency lane of the interstate. Police said she was trying to get a ride to North Miro Street around midnight.
New Orleans police said they still are investigating her death.
“If my child would have just been honest with me, my child would be here,” Martin-Nelson said. “Y’all would be in my backyard doing something,” instead of in the front for a vigil.
There were nearly 200 people gathered in front of Martin-Nelson’s house Tuesday night to remember Ward.
