Fans of George R.R. Martin’s original books and early “Game Of Thrones” viewers revealing plot lines via Twitter and Facebook have been notorious for spoiling episodes. That doesn’t appear to be a threat for the show’s fifth season, as nearly half the episodes leaked to torrent sites and peer-to-peer networks late Saturday night.

While the premiere episode of “Game Of Thrones” was set to air Sunday night, the first four episodes are readily available online. That comprises roughly half of the 10-episode season, and HBO has released a statement in the wake of the leak.

“Sadly, it seems the leaked four episodes of the upcoming season of ‘Game of Thrones’ originated from within a group approved by HBO to receive them,” the statement, which was released to USA Today and other outlets, read. “We’re actively assessing how this breach occurred.”

Patrick Ryan of USA Today reports the leaks appeared to be from review copies sent to members of the media. According to The New York Times, the quick nature of peer-to-peer downloading has already accounted for hundreds of thousands of illegal downloads of the four episodes in question.
