(Undated)  —  Oscar nominated actor Benedict Cumberbatch is in apology mode after using the world “colored” to describe black people on Tavis Smiley’s TV talk show.  “The Imitation Game” star issued an apology Monday saying, “I make no excuse for my being an idiot and know the damage is done.”  Cumberbatch said the most shaming aspect of his misstep was that he was in the midst of a discussion about the need to improve racial inequality in the performing arts when he used the outdated term.  The British actor, also known for playing the title role on TV’s “Sherlock,” said he could only hope that the incident will highlight the need for correct usage of terminology that is accurate and inoffensive.
