Guys need to be on alert: Jill Scott is only giving a man six months to impress her in a relationship before she drops them.

You ladies can mess around with a man for years trying to figure out if he’s the right one for you, but Jill’s got better things to do. That’s why she’s putting men on a strict deadline. As a singer, actress and a mom Jill recognizes that her time comes at a high premium. Like many of us, she’s looking for love, but she’s not able to give a dude too long to see if they have something deeper.

In her new movie, With This Ring, airing at 8 pm tonight on Lifetime, Jill and her friends give themselves a year to get some man to put a ring on it. It’s rare to see a couple go from their first date to the altar in just a year, but that might not be impossible on the timeline that Jill gives her suitors.

The “Crown Royal On Ice” siren told ABC News Radio that she gives a relationship six months to determine if it’s really going anywhere. “I’m older now so I see a little bit better than I did before. My longest relationships now are about nine months. Actually, now it’s grown to six months,” Jill said. “There’s no need for me to waste my time or anybody else’s. I know by then. If you make it over the six month hump, you have done something. I must really like you.”

Jill’s been hitched once before, but she split from Lyzell Willams after six years of marriage. Unfortunately, her engagement to drummer Lil John Roberts didn’t quite work out either. Looking back on it, though, Jill thinks she has an idea why those relationships didn’t stand the test of time.

“You can hold your stomach in for four hours, but you can’t hold it in forever,” “You have to be who you are and you have to genuinely love who you love in order to have a lasting marriage.

Before she signed off, Getting married is one thing; staying married is something else.”

Preach, Jilly! Holler at us when you figure out that last part and give us some notes.
