The BuzzFeed recently did an interview with Michael Sam, Sr. regarding his son Michael Sam, Jr. and their relationship.
Michael Sr. says that he found out that his son was gay when everyone else found out, when Michael Jr. came out back in February in an interview that he did with the New York Times.
Michael Sr. says that he had his suspicions about his son when he was off at college and that at some point he met his son’s boyfriend, Vito Cammisano who was called his “friend”.
Michael Sr. made a comment about his son’s music choices saying, “He knew all of them white songs. He knew country, Taylor Swift, all that stuff. I’m like what brother knows all of them white songs? That tripped me out.”
After one of Michael Jr.’s trips back home, his father noticed that Michael Jr. and his friend Vito appeared to be closer than just a friend. Michael Sr. said that he waited for the two boys to leave back to school and he said, “I told JoAnn, you know, Mike ain’t bring his girlfriend but he brought this dude. That’s kinda funny. I kept asking Mike was this boy funny? No, Daddy, no ain’t nothing wrong with Vito he’d say.”
When talking about Vito, Michael, Sr. said, “He didn’t act gay then either.”
On his bday, Michael Sr. says he received a text message from what he says, “I could tell his PR guy wrote that message because Mike don’t talk like that. It was some bu**sh#*. I wanted to inform you that I’m gay.”
Michael Sr. said that he responded to his son’s text message with “That’s all you’ve got to say?” and after that, Michael Sr. says he received another text from his son saying “Happy birthday” and after that he went out and got drunk.
After Sam came out to the world, he distanced his relationship from his father. Michael Sr. says that he wants to have a relationship with his son and that he doesn’t want him to change his sexuality and that he doesn’t “hate” his son.
Michael Sr. said that he know that his son would be special and he also had to say, “That boy, he had some big nuts. He was big when he was born. That boy had some big-a** balls.”
