Initially I didn’t want to go to the Navy. I was messing up in college, having as my mom likes to say “a pizza and P***y party”. So my parents decided to pull the plug on the finances. I had a choice pay for school on my own, join the work force or join the military.

Having done four years of JROTC (that’s how I got the name The General) I opted for the military. My reason being that it would get me to Norfolk, VA so I could go back and hang out with my friends at Hampton University just down the road.

I was wrong.

In God’s funny little way he sent me all around the world but no where near the one place I wanted to go. I was stationed in Orlando, Great Lakes, Pensacola, Philly, Italy, Saudi Arabia, Maine and finally Meridian, MS.

And it was the best thing that ever happened to me. The experiences and friendships I gained during that four year tour have lasted a lifetime and I wouldn’t change it for anything.

Happy Veterans Day to all the men and women who have had the courage to don the uniform.
