(BAYTOWN, TX)–The Harris County Sheriff’s Office lost one of their own in a head-on car accident Wednesday morning.
The accident took place on E. Wallisville Road between Thompson and Wade as the deputy was en route to a welfare check.
“Deputies said an oncoming SUV crossed into the eastbound lanes, striking the deputy’s cruiser head-on. The patrol car spun into a drainage ditch as the Explorer spun into the center of the intersection,” KHOU said.
The 32-year-old deputy was immediately airlifted to Memorial Hermann Trauma Center. He died of his wounds at approximately 1:00 a.m.
Driving the SUV was newly identified 27-year-old Kelly Jo Ivey and according to reports deputies believe she was under the influence of drugs or some other substance.
The woman was transported via ground to the same hospital. Her condition is unknown.
