sean gilmore with sleepover tent(HOUSTON)– The old saying “necessity is the mother of invention” is certainly true for 13-year old Sean Gilmore.

The Houston teen came up with the idea of a sleep-over bed tent to solve his personal sleep-over dilemma.

“I didn’t like putting up a blow-up mattress for my friends, so I thought that if I could make this, it could help me and potentially other people,” Sean explained.

The key feature he says is two people can share a single bed, but have complete privacy.

After his sleep over bed tent took first place in a school contest, Sean decided to take his idea a step further.

Enter employee, financial backer and mom Vanessa Gilmore. Working together, the two had an endless to-do list which included everything from finding a patent attorney to landing a manufacturer in China.

“It has been a real adventure,” Gilmore said, “I have new respect for people who start new businesses.”

She advises parents with budding entrepreneurs to involve them in the entire process.

“Because there is value in this process no matter what happens. Because you want to make sure that children understand how much work is involved to actually get a business up and running,” said Gilmore.

You can meet Sean and his mom at his sleep-over bed tent launch party, Sat., Sept. 27, 2014 from 12 – 2 p.m. at Lynn Goode Vintage, 3637 West Alabama, Suite 3637 or visit Sean’s website at www.sleepoverbedtent.com.
