During this past Sunday’s game with Seattle Seahawks and Denver Broncos, Wes Welker was delivered a hit to the helmet during a play that will hopefully become illegal in 2015.
Peyton Manning threw a pass to his receiver Wes Welker when Seattle’s Safety Kam Chancellor jumped up and intercepted the ball instead. During this interception, Welker was hit by Seattle’s safety Earl Thomas.

If the play was illegal, a flag would have been thrown for unnecessary roughness, the play would have been overturned and Denver would have been back 12 yards which was closer to the end zone.
Since Welker did not make the catch, he did not fall under the “defenseless player” rule.
