You will probably never hear the much anticipated “Detox” album from Dr. Dre and it’s probably because he’s over there caressing all the millions of dollars he’s made by selling his Beats by Dre headphones.  **Side Note** Rumors say that Dre scrapped his Detox album years ago and started a new album with a new name.  We’ll see.

The hip-hop titan and his business partner, Jimmy Iovine, sold the company for $3 billion dollars to Apple.  The sum broke down something like the two getting $2.6 billion in cash, $400 million in Apple stock, and big time jobs with the company.

Which leads me to the Forbes 2014 Hip-Hop Cash Kings list that shows Dre’s pretax earnings estimated at $620 million, the highest annual total of any entertainer ever evaluated by Forbes. It’s also more than the combined earnings of all 24 of his peers on this year’s Hip-Hop Cash Kings list.

Sorry Jay and Puff, this year…Dr. Dre is Hip-Hop’s Cash King.

The list is based on touring, record sales, publishing, merchandise sales, endorsements, and other ventures. Earnings are calculated from June 2013 to June 2014 and based on data from Pollstar, the RIAA, and Nielsen SoundScan, and from interviews with managers, lawyers, music executives, and artists themselves.

See the list of hip-hop’s top 20 earners below.
